Fly for free with your new bicycle
How many times has the following scenario happened?:
While on a 4-day business trip, you find yourself with time to fit in a road or mountain bike ride. But, in preparation for your trip, you left your “A-bike” home because the $200 round-trip airline fee prevented you from packing your bike for the trip.
At Cascade Bicycle Studio, we offer custom bicycles from Seven and Sycip who utilize S and S Machine’s Bicycle Torque Couplings. (BTC™) With a frame built around BTC’s, a standard road, mountain, or touring frame can be disassembled and packed into a 26×26×10” case which qualifies as check-able luggage, thus avoiding oversized baggage fees.
At the heart of the system, a BTC is installed on the top tube and down tube, and the frame separates with the use of a special spanner wrench. CBS founder Zac Daab can attest to the durability and reliability of this system as he packed his Seven Sola titanium mountain bike and traveled around North America to compete in multiple 24-hour endurance mountain bike races.

The cost to install S&S BTC couplers to a frame ranges from $510-$2750 depending on material and frame choice (single bike vs. tandem). In addition to this cost, travel cases and other accessories can be purchased to safeguard the bike while traveling.
Finally, not all S&S bicycles are created equally. One significant advantage of purchasing a bicycle with BTCs from Cascade Bicycle Studio includes the fact that Seven Cycles or Sycip can tune the final ride quality, while taking BTCs into account. Adding BTCs to a frame actually increases the stiffness of the tube. When designing your frame, the folks at Seven and Sycip will choose a tubeset that takes the addition of the BTC into account, thus creating an appropriate ride characteristic that will be lighter and more compliant.
