1-on-1 Service
We had an outrageous service experience the other day at a local lumber yard that begs mentioning. As we began build-out at the studio, there were many trips to a national hardware chain, many times filled with questions. It quickly became obvious that the poor service received at this national chain wasn’t really the fault of each individual employee. While most employees seemed too bothered to help out and answer questions, the real challenge to receiving service was the way in which the service originated: find a representative; hope they were willing to help; cross fingers whether or not they were from the right department. This process and origination of service ultimately ended up creating a less than positive experience.
Fast forward to a regional lumber yard in the metro area: Dunn Lumber. When you walk into Dunn Lumber, the process of receiving service is remarkably different. Rather than requiring the consumer to wander and find a representative, Dunn Lumber has created a team of over 10 experts who are stationed in the middle of the store, waiting to serve the consumer. You, the consumer, take a number and then wait for a service representative. When it’s your turn, the process suddenly turns into a 1-on-1 experience.
